Rummy – A Classic Line Game
Rummy is a game where players use a special deck of cards to form melds of different numbers. This type of game can be played by two, three, or four players. Traditionally, rummy was played with a Spanish deck of forty cards. However, it has been speculated that the game may have originated in Asia or in Mexico. In 1891, William H. Wilkinson introduced the game to Western countries as Khanhoo.
Rummy games have many variants. There are tile rummy games and card rummy games. Many of these games have slightly different rules. Some are simpler than others. Some include special tiles that are used to make combinations. For example, some games have a special tile called a Joker. Other variations include mahjong, a card game that features many different variations from different countries.
The basic aim of rummy is to form melds, which are combinations of three or four cards of the same suit or rank. Some variants also include a minimum point requirement, which must be met before the game can be completed. Typically, four players play in pairs or partnerships of two. In some variants, players may completely rearrange their cards to form melds.
